Program Information
Systematics & Evolutionary Biology
Members of the specialization in Systematics and Evolutionary Biology study patterns and processes associated with the diversity of plants. Areas of interest include taxonomy, phylogeny reconstruction, character evolution, and historical biogeography. Research projects range from investigations of population dynamics and speciation to systematic studies of genera and families to analyses of phylogenetic relationships among major plant groups, including both extant and fossil lineages. Data for these studies are drawn from a variety of sources, including developmental, anatomical, morphological, biochemical, genetic, and genomic information.
